Some tips

Never neglect your puppy's diet, it will be a key pillar for its well-being. Make sure you provide quality food, rich in nutrients and suitable for its size, age and activity level. Here are some tips:

- Balanced food: Opt for foods that contain proteins, healthy fats and carbohydrates in adequate proportions.

- Avoid toxic foods: Some human foods, such as chocolate, grapes, garlic and onions, are toxic to dogs. Keep these foods out of their reach.

- Hydration: Make sure your dog always has access to fresh water, especially in hot weather or after exercise.

Having said all this, you may be wondering: what is the best food for my dog? And the answer as a veterinarian is absolute and resounding: NONE. KEEP WATCHING. All ultra-processed food like feed is not healthy. And if they tell you otherwise, they are really looking for business. They are killing each other in wars between the best known feed companies. And not to give you the best product, but to paint it to you as the best. As a veterinarian, once again, I would advise you a BARF diet, which in short is biologically appropriate raw food for pets. You will be amazed at the change in coat, musculature and the condition of the joints and teeth!!! This way you will know exactly what your dog eats and save money on top of that.

1 . Healthy eating

My owner is a veterinarian and has left me a compilation of tips that you should follow if you want your puppy to look as cute and healthy as I do. Don't miss a single one!

Dogs need daily exercise to stay healthy and happy. Depending on the breed, they may require different levels of activity. We Dachshunds, despite having short legs, need a high level of physical activity so we don't look like fat sausages. As a veterinarian, I can give you some tips, here they go:

- Regular walks: it is always said that you should go for 3 walks a day but the time of the walks is never mentioned. Enjoy at least one of these walks, giving it a longer duration, at least 1 hour. This way he will exercise and fight the stress of spending hours and hours at home. Take them to the countryside or the beach!

- Play with them, you can use toys or a ball to stimulate both their body and mind.

- Introducing swimming will forever be one of the best decisions you can make. They will prevent back and joint problems as well as improve their cardiovascular system and musculature.

2 . Exercise and physical activity

Toys are not only fun, but they also keep your dog mentally stimulated, so follow these tips to get your dog's toys right:

- Interactive type toys are great for keeping your dog entertained and encouraging his problem-solving skills.

- Use toys that hide treats or kibble to keep your dog amused while he works to get his reward. Use chewies if your dog tends to chew on things, they will satiate him.

- Change toys from time to time to keep your dog's interest and keep him from getting bored, we even have a monthly subscription plan to give him the best toys every month, keep an eye on the web!!!

- If he has a favorite toy, replace it whenever it breaks. I am never without my chicken. Best friend

3 . Toys

Preventing health problems is the best way to ensure a long and happy life for your dog, as a veterinarian I would recommend an annual checkup at the vet, perform deworming at home: internal every 3 months and external, every 6 months.

If your dog is older than 7 years in small breeds or older than 5 years in large breeds, it would not hurt to do a complete blood test annually.

Dental cleaning at least once every two days, the teeth are the great forgotten of our dogs, but be careful, tartar bacteria can move and enter other organs, most often the heart.

Food: no matter how many times I say it, food is the gasoline of our dogs and their health and longevity depends on it.

If you have doubts about the above mentioned subjects or you want more information you can book an on-line veterinary appointment where I will attend you in less than 4 hours. Your trusted veterinarian at home :)

4 . Preventive health

Keeping your dog's coat clean and healthy is not only important for his appearance, but also for his well-being, so follow these tips:

- Brush your dog according to the appropriate frequency for its coat type. Long-haired dogs need more frequent brushing than short-haired dogs.

- Do not bathe your dog too often, as this can damage its skin. Use specific shampoos for dogs, and don't abuse of baths. Once a month is more than enough and is the minimum time I recommend between baths.

- Keep your dog's nails short to avoid discomfort and possible mobility problems. You can do it at home, it is very easy.

- Do dental cleaning at least once every two days, the teeth are the great forgotten of our dogs, but be careful, the tartar bacteria can move and get into other organs, most frequently the heart.

5 . Coat care and grooming

Dogs also need attention and love to keep them happy. Emotional attention is just as important as physical care, so follow some of these tips:

- Spend time with your dog, whether it's playing, taking a walk or just relaxing together. Dogs need the closeness of their family.

- Dogs benefit from having a stable daily routine. Try to have walks, meals and rest times at similar times every day. Take at least one of the long walks, they need time for themselves.

- Avoid stressful situations. Some dogs are more sensitive to loud noises or sudden changes in their environment. Maintain a calm environment and provide a safe space for your dog to relax and feel at home.

6 . Emotional well-being
